Splendours of the Subcontinent

In October 1875, Albert Edward, the Prince of Wales (later Edward VII) set off on a four-month tour of what is now India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and Nepal.

Travelling nearly 7,600 miles by land and 2,300 miles by sea, he met over 90 rulers of the different regions he visited. He brought home an extraordinary collection of gifts, reflecting some of the finest art and craft of the places he visited. The exhibition showcases many of the most beautiful gifts received by the Prince, now part of the Royal Collection, on display as a group for the first time since the late 19th century.
